Artificial intelligence
Artificial intelligence and machine learning are the simulation of human intelligence processes by computer systems. These intelligent systems include learning (the acquisition of information and rules for the use of information), reasoning (the use of rules to reach approximate or definitive conclusions) and self-correction.
In the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning, practical applications from the point of view of intellectual skills are based on four different functional levels:
- Comprehension: through the simulation of cognitive abilities of correlating data and events, artificial intelligence is able to recognize texts, images, tables, videos, voice and extract information from them;
- Reasoning: thanks to algorithms, systems are able to connect the multiple information collected;
- Learning: artificial intelligence uses systems with specific features for the analysis of data inputs and for their correct return to output;
- Interaction: technology interacts with humans through softwares that exploit natural language.
Artificial intelligence and machine learning: applications
Artificial intelligence, thanks to its smart systems, can simplify the life of companies and users, especially in these sectors:
- e-Health: companies apply machine learning to make better and faster diagnoses and to identify specialized and personalized treatment. Other applications concern chatbots, those online programs to answer questions, assist patients and even book appointments;
- Business and finance: machine learning algorithms are integrated into analytics and CRM platforms to identify information on how to better serve customers. While chatbots have been incorporated into websites to provide immediate service to customers;
- e-Learning: to improve the performance of educational programs aimed at both school pupils and company collaborators, optimizing training through personalized e-learning courses;
- Industry: robots, already used for some time in the industrial sector, are able in some activities to replace humans by improving production performance;
- Sales: thanks to the use of systems that allow users to find a solution to the problem without requiring the intervention of an expert;
- Marketing: virtual voice assistants (such as Apple's Siri or Amazon's Alexa) use artificial intelligence both for natural language recognition and for analyzing user behavior. This serves to improve customer care and user experience, in order to be able to predict purchasing behavior and plan communication and service proposal strategies;
- Cybercrime: artificial intelligence can help prevent fraud thanks to "advanced analytics" or very sophisticated analyzes that link data, events, behaviors and habits to understand any fraudulent activity in advance;
- Supply chain: in order management, thanks to technologies that use artificial intelligence to simplify and integrate processes involving purchases, warehouse management, sales and integration with marketing;
- Public safety: for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of public safety, for example for the safety and prevention of crimes or for the prevention and management of natural disasters such as earthquakes and tsunamis.
Artificial intelligence and machine learning: advantages
Artificial intelligence, with its machine learning systems, has a strong impact on work and everyday life, as this technology brings added value in different sectors:
- Greater precision in transport: thanks to automation, many jobs are carried out with greater accuracy and with a lower margin of error. Algorithms are able to process the fastest routes in real time and reduce the time spent in traffic;
- Diagnostics in the medical field: machine learning allows you to analyze and compare clinical histories and pathological cases, identifying details that often escape the human eye;
- Creation of new professions: birth of new professional figures that before it was not even possible to imagine;
- Protection and security: quickly process quantities of data unthinkable for humans, keeping financial transaction flows under control and preventing fraud;
- Improvement of the environment: automation using artificial intelligence will be able to improve current environmental conditions and monitor the status of the fields in real time. Think of the use of drones in agriculture.
